AMsystem
was established by Michael
Borges in 1981 in Southern California, USA.
About that time, he began innovating and improving several products
and services which initially catered to the commercial property
management industry. In 1985, success brought the capital and experience needed to
develop new products and venture into other industries including the sporting goods and home
improvement markets.
About AMsystem - Product Developments and History
In 1986 Ultra Deck® was developed by AMsystem as a clear rubber spray-on traction system for surfboards. This soon became a well know surf wax alternative. Within the next few years Chief Firewatertm Surfboard Cleaner and Wax Remover was developed and grew to include various sizes including the "Quick Wipes!" single use packets (pouches), pint size cans and bottles and eventually an 8-oz bottle with a convenient flip-top dispenser. More recently this surfboard accessory evolved into an 8-oz spray pump along with the addition of our 1-gallon units to meet the needs of our OEM markets.
In the early 1990's the whole line of Chief Firewatertm products was upgraded to our current popular citrus base formula. This has helped to keep the product on the cutting edge of competiveness, pricing, product selection and extremely wide availability throughout the surfing industry. Thanks to our vision for research, improvement and environmental concerns, people in our industry have come to know Chief Firewater as the number one best known and selling surfboard cleaner and wax remover in the surfing market today.
In the summer of 1995 our skate Bearing Cleaner Kit was invented and introduced to the roller sports (skating) industry that October. A U.S. patent was applied and has since been granted. The cleaning system kit was made super leak-proof by adding a custom fit plug to lock the cleaning solution inside the cleaning container. A companion refill product was simultaneously released to complement the sales success of our new cleaning system kit.
From 1996 through the end of 1998 a new vista of opportunity was opened for the creation and development of a new line of products for skylight industry for the home improvement market. This resulted in the development of a new concept called Skylinktm the solar powered kit for operable skylights.
About AMsystem - Surfboard Traction Products History
In February 1997 the last batch of the old Ultra Deck spray-on traction cans were sold. Since then AMsystem has worked hard to reformulate the product into a more user friendly and environmentally safer product. In 1998 we developed a brush-on version of Ultra Deck which was on the market for about 2 years. Since then it has been replaced by a new clear "peel & stick" surfboard traction product which was introduced at the A.S.R. Trade show in September of 1999. The switch to the new XM Peel & Sticktm has been so successful that we have decided to discontinue the Brush-on traction and make a complete switch to the new pressure sensitive product by offering bulk rolls for professional application at surfshops, pre-cut strips for retail package sales, and under the brand name Fly Papertm , in die cut pad size shapes with pre-printed design themes in various colors.
About AMsystem - New Product Developments
New products are always under development at AMsystem. For example, our flexible square skylight tube, Square-Flextm went into production in May 2000 and has since undergone several exciting feature enhancements since summer of 2001. In October of 2005, the U.S. Patent Office has approved the patent application for our flexible skylight tubing product which was issued January 31, 2006 under U.S. Patent Number:6,990,773. Since then the patent was assigned to our exclusive distributor, Skylights Unlimited, for production, marketing and installation.
The newest generation of Clear GripTM Peel & Stick surfboard traction was released in August 2006 with an improved "skin friendlier" formula to help minimize potential skin rash. This latest version appears clear on contact while providing excellent traction under water-wet conditions in all temperature ranges.
